Synopsis

This classic comedy set in Victorian times is a delight from the firstcucumber sandwich on, as two friends, Jack and Algernon, each leading double lives assume the name “Ernest”.  Country gentleman, Jack, routinely escapes to the city to romance the lovely Gwendolyn; his alibi, a fictitious, scandalous bother in need of rescue. London man-about-town and rogue, Algie, suspecting his friend of leading a double life, travels to the county to discover for himself “little Cecily”, Jack’s ward. Things start to go awry when, ending up together in the country, their deceptions are discovered leading to quite an unexpected outcome.
