Want to HOST a Murder Mystery?
ANYONE CAN HOST A MURDER MYSTERY!
HOSTS HAVE TOTAL CONTROL OF:
WE HAVE WORKED WITH:
HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE?
We need at least eight weeks’ notice for any existing shows. For special events requiring a specialized theme, we need at least four months’ notice. The actual show time runs about 2 hours total, including time for a meal.
We work directly with you to help make the event go smoothly for everyone —you, your staff, our team and most importantly, your audience.
Contact the Magic Circle ticket office to ask about hosting a murder mystery. We’ll be happy to meet with you to discuss details of your event.
Want to PERFORM in a Murder Mystery?
OR ASSIST, WRITE SCRIPTS, OR WORK WITH PROPS OR COSTUMES?
If you’re outgoing, can talk to anyone about anything, and you’re downright gregarious — and you love dressing up and becoming someone you are not and having a very dark side . . . WE WANT TO MEET YOU!
DIFFERENCES between a STAGE SHOW and a MURDER MYSTERY
TIME | Rehearses for 3-4 months prior to opening, 3-4 nights a week. | Workshop/auditions 6-8 weeks prior to event. Rehearsals: 2 hours per week for four weeks. |
---|---|---|
SETS | Cast/crew create, build, paint and decorate the sets. | We have no sets or lighting |
LINES | Memorize lines verbatim and potentially LOTS of lines. | Max of 15 lines/character. Your relationships with other characters is more important. |
The hardest part is THE MINGLE — interacting with the audience while in character!
When a murder mystery is booked, we post a workshop/audition announcement and
audition material on the Magic Circle website. The workshop is about an hour, and we
train you on the mingle part of the show. After that, you read for any parts you want to
be considered for.
Initial rehearsals focus heavily on the mingling with some line reading. As time goes
on, we move into the lines which should be memorized (as delivered) by the third
rehearsal. Emphasis still continues on the mingle as it’s the trickiest part of the show.
